Aggression .

"Rami, a tenth-grade student is considered a particularly troublesome child. At school he respects no one, treats everyone with contempt, and is aggressive to the people around him. He also causes problems for his parents. He steals the family's car, cruises around and commits traffic offenses. Rami's parents are very worried, especially his mother whom he doesn't listen to and responds rudely to.

Rami hasn't always behaved like this. He used to be a somewhat quiet and introverted child until his cousin, whom Rami felt very close to, unexpectedly committed suicide. Since then, Rami has become a pampered child, sleeping during the day and awake at night, neglecting himself and his studies and exploiting his parents. They continue to feel sorry for him, while he threatens that if he doesn't get what he wants, he will commit suicide. The parents feel torn. On the one hand, they are afraid he will harm himself, and on the other, they are afraid that if they give in to all his requests he will also become a lost child. Rami has recently started to smoke without shame in front of his father and to hit his little sister. All requests to him to change his ways have made absolutely no impact.

The parents approached Rami's homeroom teacher whom Rami respected in the past. The teacher spoke to Rami about his falling grades and his behavior, but this made no impact. The teacher then opened the Quran and read to Rami verse 160 from the Sura, The Cow: "As for those who repent, reform, and proclaim, I redeem them. I am the Redeemer, Most Merciful." "

This is a good example of many kids of today. It's mostly teens that get this weird irritating aggression and they get so stubborn. We shouldn't be like that. Well we should try not to. It's probably like a teen thing, but we should learn to control our thoughts and actions. For the sake of Allah (swt)

4,000 women run for office in Iraq

" Four thousand women are running for office in Iraq's provincial elections Saturday, and many of them will be guaranteed seats under an electoral quota system.
Iraqi women show off their ink-stained fingers after voting Saturday in Baghdad.

Regardless of the votes their candidates receive, parties are required to give every third seat to a woman, according to a report this week from the International Crisis Group.

The ultimate share of seats held by women will depend on the distribution of votes among parties, the report said.

Some women candidates say these elections -- only the second provincial elections since the fall of Saddam Hussein -- are a chance to improve their standing in Iraqi society.

Nibras al-Mamuri is a secular female candidate who argues that fundamentalists have taken over the country. She says it was the 2005 elections that brought them into power and tarnished Islam's image in Iraq.

Al-Mamuri, who is running for the Baghdad provincial council, says it's time for a change.

"Although a woman's role in the Arab world is mainly that of a mother and child bearer," she said, "I want to prove that women are just as capable as men when it comes to challenging arenas."

At first, al-Mamuri said, she thought just participating in the elections as a woman was enough. But now, she says she is running to win in order to defy men who believe a woman's place is in the home.

"I've entered a battlefield where women have to prove they are competent," she said. "I have to forget about fear."

In recent years, Iraqi women have been targeted by extremists for a variety of reasons -- from not covering their hair to entering the political arena.

Under Hussein, Iraq was one of the more secular Arab countries, but the 2003 U.S. invasion unleashed extremist militias. Now, many activists say women have been forced back to the Dark Ages, forced to be submissive, anonymous and fully veiled.

Al-Mamuri said she believes Saturday's vote can help women improve their position in society.

"An Iraqi woman can be an equal. She can participate in change," she told CNN.

The image of a woman posing a public and direct challenge to fundamentalists and their beliefs was not seen in the 2005 vote.

"Iraqi women form the core of society," said Rissala Khalid, another female candidate in Baghdad.

Passing out her campaign card, Khalid told young women that she will fight for their rights, and told young men that she will try to provide jobs for Iraq's largely unemployed youth. "

It's true that woman can do and offer the same quality of work and change. Woman don't only have to sit at home and clean and take care of their children. But I also did hear that one day if a woman holds a strong position in the world, like being the president, then that's a sign of something bad. I'm not sure if that's true, or if that even applies to this same situation. Oh well.

Dananananananana Batman!

Even Batman and robin get emails from their enemies and friend :) Funny Cartoon.

Poor Frog

"Once upon a time, there was a mouse, which, whilst passing a pond witnessed a frog emerge from the depth of the pond. Astonished by this unusual sight, the mouse began to converse with the frog and through this, a very warm and friendly conversation took place. A very close friendship grew between the two of them, until it developed into a love relationship. By mutual arrangement, they appointed a specific time at which they could meet each other in the mornings daily and converse with each other for a long time. At these special meetings they use to enlighten each other with their own opinions regarding certain topics or they use to entertain each other with exciting stories regarding their past. Their hearts opened up to each other and were joy filled at the sight of one another.

One day the mouse said to the frog “You are swimming around in the water while I am left all alone on the dry earth. I suffer the pangs of sorrow over being parted from you. When lonely, I come to the edge of the water to call to you, but while you are in the water, even the voice of a lover cannot be heard. I cannot be at peace by meeting you for such a short time each day.”

The mouse replied, “O beloved frog: I cannot live a moment of my life peacefully without seeing your face. By day, the sight of you is my life: by night the thought of you is my tranquillity and sleep. It will be very courteous on your part that you will permit me the pleasure of meeting you time upon time at every opportunity possible.”

The mouse carried on by saying “My respected friend, I am a creature that can live on land alone, whereas you can live on land and in water. But how is it possible for you to know inside the water that I have the desire to meet you?”

For quite a while they pondered upon this and consulted each other until finally, the mouse put an opinion forward. This opinion was that one end of a piece of string is to be tied to the foot of the frog and the other end is to be tied to the foot of the mouse. Thus, when the mouse has a desire to meet the frog he will just need to pull the string and the frog will respond by returning to the surface of the water.

The frog considered the mouse's suggestion to be a bad one and said in his heart, “This evil one, wishes to tie me up and make me live like a prisoner.”

Despite disliking the mouse's suggestion, the frog found an inclination within himself to accept to the request.

The two of them, by pulling the string were able to meet each other repeatedly each day until destruction struck them one morning. A vulture seeing it's pray i.e. the mouse, from high above soared down upon the mouse, it also unknowingly, lifted the frog out of the water where until now he was safe and comfortable. This was due to the fact that the string held the mouse and the frog together. Unfortunately, what fate awaited the mouse befell the frog as well. The vulture killed them both and devoured them. If the frog remained in the water and had not formed a friendship with the evil mouse, nothing would have happened to him and he would not have been the prey of the vulture.

We have to keep in mind about our desires and the people around us. They can lead us into where we shouldn't be going if we aren't careful. This is all because of the shaitan. He wants us to need the things we shouldn't.

Allah (swt)

"Many non-Muslims have come to incorrectly believe that Allah is the ‘God of Muslims’ – A deity somehow different from the God of the other faiths. It should be emphasised that the term “Allah” has no implied meaning at all of an Arabian god, a Moon god or even a Muslim god. Muslims are not claiming any exclusiveness when they say "Allah". However Allah is simply the Arabic Name of the one Almighty God; the same name by which Arabic-speaking Jews and Christians, refer to God. The Allah comes from the term ‘al-ilaah’. Al is the definite article in Arabic, equivalent to ‘the’ in English, while ilaah means ‘a deity or god’. So Allah means The God. This is beautifully articulated in the first pillar of Islam which is to believe that God is One, in Arabic it would be, "La ilaha illallah" meaning "There is no god but God""

I do get a comment a lot from non-Muslims like "Don't you call your God Allah" or " The Muslims God is Allah" which bothers me because it's like they think we have our own kind of God, which isn't the case. I do explain to my non-muslim friends that Allah is just a. arabic term for God. I hope they understood.

IBM Confirms Layoffs

"The week has already seen heavy layoffs in the IT sector, including 5,000 at Microsoft and another 5,000 to 6,000 at Intel. Thus far, while IBM has yet to comment publicly on any layoffs or specific numbers, the Internet is rife with reports from allegedly laid-off IBMers.

According to Alliance@IBM, a Web site created by a local of the Communications Workers of America union, which is trying to organize IBM workers, the software group appears to be bearing the brunt of the cuts, with 1,419 cuts reported, along with another 1,499 jobs lost in sales and distribution.

In a message board on the Web site, posts allegedly from laid-off IBM workers indicate a number of the layoffs are occurring at IBM's software lab in Toronto, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2007.

IBM Canada spokesman Mike Boden confirmed on Friday to ITBusiness.ca that a round of global layoffs is underway at IBM, including at IBM Canada. According to Boden, no exact numbers on the scope of the cuts are being released at this time.

"We're not releasing numbers by site," said Boden. "There's no single area being targeted. As part of ongoing business operations at IBM we're trying to manage the resources and skills we have so we're ready and able to meet current and future client needs."

Boden said some of the impacted employees will be able to find other positions within the company, adding IBM Canada is working with them to look for other internal opportunities.

"The (recent financial results) were good, but this is just part of IBM's continuing efforts to manage the resources we have and ensure the resources we have are aligned to client needs now and in the future," said Boden.

The Alliance@IBM Web site has been buzzing with job-cut rumours since the beginning of the year.

One message stated that IBM would announce 16,000 layoffs on Jan. 23, affecting workers worldwide. Similar predictions are made in other recent posts on the site.

A number of messages state that IBM's semiconductor plant in Burlington, Vt., may be particularly hard hit.

IBM has more than 386,000 employees worldwide, according to its Web site. If the rumored 16,000 figure proves accurate, then, it would equal roughly a four per cent reduction in headcount."

10 Web Sites That Will Matter in 2009 :D

So these sites may not have been known that much in 2008 but they will most likely be famous in 2009. (Not in any specific order)

1. Tweetag : People discuss matters on this site. Some may be important to each person. There are some discussions really worth reading for.

2. Hi5 : This is the world's third largest social-networking site. It could probably beat Myspace one day.

3. Tripit : Your own person travel assistant on the computer. Tells you information about plane, taxi, train, and so on. It can tell you about the prices, timings, reservation information, anything that really has to do with your travel.

4. Power.com : I think this is MY kind of site ^.^ It's just basically a place where you can log into your social networking accounts such as Myspace and Facebook.

5. Blip.fm : This site is like twitter except for music. So you know all the latest news about songs and artists.

6. Loopt : This is actually an application you can get for your phone that tells you where your location is plus the location of your friends. Amazing isn't it?

7. TV.com : The name basically says it all. You can watch full videos, shows and movies on this site.

8. Qik : You can stream live videos and shows through your phone camera. This would be good for like if someone wasn't able to make it to your competition or something, you can have it showing live and that someone can watch it on the internet wherever they are.

9. Boxee : This takes videos from all over the web such as YouTube and Hulu into one organized site.

10. Blackberry Application Storefront : It isn't that interesting to me, but to those that are Blackberry addicts will soon find a applications on a site for their Blackberrys.

Spreading Rumors and Lies

"Hanin, who is in the ninth grade, noticed that all her friends were keeping away from her and her classmates were casting suspicious glances at her and whispering behind her back. She tried to understand what was going on and why they were treating her like that. She asked her best friend who told her that there was a rumor in school that she had stolen a gold chain from one of the girls. Hanin burst into tears and did not know what to do and how to act. In the end she turned to her teacher, told her about the rumors and claimed that someone wanted to slander her and she did not know why. The teacher asked Hanin to calm down and restrain herself until the matter was clarified and the truth revealed. If she was sure she had done nothing wrong, she should ignore the rumors.

The teacher summoned the girl who claimed that Hanin had stolen from her, and the girl told her that during a sports lesson she had suddenly discovered that the chain was missing from her bag. The teacher asked her where the bag had been left and she replied that it had been in the school courtyard under the pomegranate tree. The teacher asked her to accompany her on a search under the tree but the girl objected and said she had looked there and found nothing. She again accused Hanin. Now the teacher began to suspect that something was wrong. She questioned the girl thoroughly and several of her girlfriends as well and soon discovered the truth: the accuser was infatuated with one of the boys in the class who was Hanin's boyfriend, and she was jealous. She wanted to take revenge on Hanin and persuade everyone, including the boy, to keep away from her, by spreading rumors.

The teacher reprimanded the girl, summoned Hanin and told her that the truth had been revealed and that she was innocent. She told the two girls that when there is faith in Allah, the truth will always emerge, as the Quran writes: "That He might justify Truth and prove Falsehood false, distasteful though it be to those in guilt"."

Everyone knows not to spread rumors or lie about things, but yet people still do. By these lies and rumors, people get hurt, people get the wrong idea of other people, and worse at times. Backbiting and lying or some of the major sins that Allah (swt) told us not to do. So next time, let's try our best not to say false lines.

green, energy, recycling, Higher energy costs, growing public awareness of carbon consumption, new laws regulating e-waste disposal, and recent plans by the impending Obama Administration to invest in renewable energy projects to stimulate the U.S. economy are inspiring both vendors and buyers to focus on environmentally suitable products.

The Sustainability Planet pavilion at the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas very nearly doubled in size this year, with a couple dozen companies displaying green packaging, alternative power sources, tools such as solar rechargers, and gadgets for assessing energy use. In addition, many major vendors devoted sections of their CES booths to publicizing their environmental efforts--everything from lowering the wattage demands of common products such as TVs and DVD players to launching recycling efforts and buy-back programs.

"Retailers are starting to push suppliers for sustainable packaging and eco-friendly products," says Craig Hershberg, director of environmental affairs for Toshiba America. "We want to see it become a purchasing decision." "

Illegally Dowloaded Music

"Despite initiatives by ISPs to stop illegal file sharing, 95 percent of online music downloads are completed illegally, says the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).

According to the industry body, global music downloads rose by 25 percent in 2008 and were worth around US$3.7 billion. Digital music downloads now account for 20 percent of all music sales.

However, only 1.4 billion tracks were legally downloaded, compared to the 40 billion digital audio files that it estimates were shared illegally last year.

In the UK alone, 110 million single tracks and 10.3 million digital albums were purchased in 2008.

"Governments are beginning to accept that, in the debate over 'free content' and engaging ISPs in protecting intellectual property rights, doing nothing is not an option if there is to be a future for commercial digital content," said John Kennedy, chairman and chief executive of IFPI.

In July, six of the UK's largest ISPs, including BT, the Carphone Warehouse and Virgin Media, signed an agreement with the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) that they would issue warning letters to customers suspected of illegally downloading digital files.

The agreement is the first step toward implementing a 'three strikes rule' that would result in illegal file sharers having their broadband connection suspended and possibly even terminated if they continue to offend after being issued with a warning letter."

Most all Americans do it and if I'm not mistaken people over seas do it too. I bet these company people do it too but they don't want to admit it. There are people out there that actually do do it, which is a good thing. So these people and companies are able to make money. I do feel a little guilty because it is kind of like stealing.

Motorola builds phone from recycled water bottles

"At CES today, Motorola unveiled a new phone with a unique environmentally responsible design: The plastic housing of the Moto W233 Renew is made of plastics from recycled water bottles, according to the company, and is itself 100 percent recyclable. Moreover, the company says the device is the world's first carbon-neutral phone.

The use of recycled water-bottle plastic for the casing is pretty straightforward. But just how, you might wonder, does a company make an electronic device carbon neutral? The same way some companies attempt to make themselves carbon neutral: using carbon offsets. "Through an alliance with Carbonfund.org, Motorola offsets the carbon dioxide required to manufacture, distribute and operate the phone through investments in renewable energy sources and reforestation. The phone has earned Carbonfund.org's CarbonFree Product Certification after an extensive product life-cycle assessment," according to Motorola.

Beyond using the recycled plastic and making the phone carbon neutral, Motorola has reduced the phone's packaging by 22 percent. All of the materials inside are printed on 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper. In addition, a postage-paid recycling envelope in box makes it easy for consumers to return their previous mobile phone for recycling at no cost. "

The new Simcraft Apex SC830 is a race car simulator. It's like you are driving an actual race car except you are in some kind of cage with a steering wheel and two monitors, and you aren't going to actually have the possibility of crashing yourself. "Seventeen people have been killed and 30 wounded in clashes between Sunni and Shia groups in villages in the Hangu District in northwest Pakistan, police said Saturday.

A meeting has been called to bring the two sides together with government officials to discuss a cease-fire, police said.

I think it's rather dumb that this happens. Shia and Sunni people are both Muslims, and they should know better than to fight over their own religion. And that doesn't look good on Mulims if we fight over our own sects. That could show other people that Muslims aren't sure is one religion if people are fighting over Islam. Not only is fighting bad, but the fact that some people died make in even worse!

Technology's next frontier: In-car computing

"Cell phones and TVs converging with the Internet? That's so 2008. The next big tech trend may be the marriage of computer technology to your car or truck.

This month, Hyundai is launching a system that warns motorists when they drift out of the lane they're traveling in. Another manufacturer has developed pedestrian-detection software that works with heat-seeking cameras to alert drivers when someone is in their path.

In March, Ford will release a fully functional, dashboard computer -- complete with keyboard -- geared to contractors and other business folks who want to access the Web, review documents and log inventory while on the go. In the spring, AT&T will launch an in-car entertainment service with 22 satellite TV channels.

Industry executives hope the new technological bells and whistles will put some sizzle back into stagnant vehicle sales.

"Consumers want a vehicle that's always on and always connected," said Kieran O'Sullivan, vice president at Continental Automotive Systems, which supplies parts and technology to automakers. In the near future, he said, "consumers and carmakers will be able to customize the [dashboard] instrument panel to their individual tastes the same way that people customize their mobile phones."

O'Sullivan spoke Thursday at a panel discussion at the International Consumer Electronics Show subtitled, "The Automobile's Convergence with Consumer Electronics." Panelists, including executives from Microsoft, Nokia and GM's OnStar service, agreed the industry is just beginning to tap the potential of in-car computing."

Some care companies are going to add more technologies to their cars to help for a better cause. Like For is putting some computer thing in their big trucks and vans so they can view some of their work while they are on the go. Hyundai is putting a device in their car that tells if a person is walking near by but you can't really see them. Of course their will also be a regular connection of Internet so that cars now will be connected wherever they go.

How should we treat other people?

"Samer, an eighth-grader, is notorious in school. He frequently quarrels with other pupils and after school he continues his quarrels with the children in his neighborhood. He does not allow the teacher to complete a lesson, punches his neighbors in class, vandalizes school property and deliberately turns on faucets. Yesterday he chased another pupil and tried to pour Coca Cola over him, and then he dragged a large garbage container to the middle of the road so that the teachers could not drive past. His class teacher and the principal asked his parents to come to school for a discussion. His mother came alone and told them that she was helpless because Samer cursed her and refused to listen. When his father comes home from work and hears about Samer's conduct, she said, he beats him savagely. But next day Samer reverts to his bad behavior as if he had not been punished.

The principal decided to invite the whole family including Samer for a talk in her office. When they came in, she asked them to sit down and noticed that Samer sat down at a distance from the rest. She asked him to come closer. "I want to read you an important Quran verse", she said. "It is intended for all of us, including me and the teacher and for Samer and his family as well". Then she read out: " and do good- to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbours who are near, neighbours who are strangers, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (ye meet)". "Do we all observe this verse?" she asked. "I invited you here. Do you feel that I am respecting you?" The parents and even Samer nodded. "Samer, do you abide by this verse?" Samer sat in embarrassed silence. "No, I know that I don't", he finally replied and then his father added: "To tell the truth, I don't always abide by it because I often beat Samer". "There is no more to be said", the principal declared. "From today on, all of us promise one another to abide by the verse and not only to do good to one another but also to those who are strangers to us. And if any of us has a problem we can always talk about it without hurting others"."

-How should we treat other people?. Retrieved January 10, 2009, from quranet.net Web site: http://www.quranet.net/en-quranet/33-chapter-11/522-how-should-we-treat-other-people.html

This story seems a little bit cheesy, but it does have a good meaning to it. No matter who we meet or know, we should always be kind and do good to them. Especially our elders and parents and friends. The Quran : "Serve Allah, and join not any partners with Him; and do good- to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbours who are near, neighbours who are strangers, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (ye meet), and what your right hands possess: For Allah loveth not the arrogant, the vainglorious;" (Surah 4, Verse 36). Allah (swt) will love those who are kind to others. I'm pretty sure everyone wants to do their best to do what our Creator has told us to do.
